Water

Water

There are millions of people in the world who are not lucky enough to have access to clean water. They use contaminated water for drinking which causes thousands of them to lose their lives every year. There are many rural communities in the world which are dangerously low in clean drinking water. According to statistics, over 80 % of the health issues throughout the world are caused by contaminated water.

Water supplies in developing countries are infected with bacteria that cause diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, dysentery, etc. Diarrhea related diseases are directly associated with the deaths of more than 6 million children per year.

Clean Drinking Water

Poor people from the rural areas around the world mostly depend on their wells for water – both for drinking and other purposes. Unfortunately, the conditions are unhygienic most of the time. There are instances when people would drink water from the same source which their animals also drink. Moreover, the water is muddy and unfit for drinking. Even human and animal excrement gets mixed up with the water in some cases. They don’t have a system of proper sanitation.

Furthermore, there are areas where people have to bring water from far off places to meet their daily usage. Sometimes they even have to walk many kilometers to bring water for themselves because these areas don’t have tube-wells or pipelines which can provide them with water at their homes. The situation is growing worse with each passing day for these people. We need to feel a sense of responsibility towards all those among us who are underprivileged and who don’t have the basic needs of life available to them.

Our focus will remain on the following areas of help: (a) availability of clean water sources (b) involvement of the local people to solve the problem (c) to reduce the toil of women and children who are among the most affected of the populace and (d) to try to reduce the people’s reliance on external assistance as far as possible.

We at Hope Lives Here encourage all people to come up with their own ideas and to work toward the betterment of those people’s lives who need our help. The key is to realize a sense of duty towards those living in unfavorable conditions while living our life of ease and amenities. This can give us something we can be proud of!
